We’re humble and still love what we do. Based out of Winnipeg, Canada, close to the middle of our country, we’re grounded in the will and resilience that comes from living here. There’s beauty in simplicity. We’re rooted in the ideals of great concepts with skilled execution. As filmmakers, our goal is to always reach for the next level with each production.
We love to explore new places and meet amazing people and we’re looking forward to working with you to help tell your story.
We’ve had the good fortune to work with great organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and The Dufresne Group. We’ve also worked on documentaries and contributed to shows on CBC, APTN, Smithsonian Channel, Bloomberg TV and MTS. In all honesty, it’s an exciting time for us as we continue to grow and work on bigger and better things.

Andrew Wiens, Creative Director
In grade two Andrew was asked to write a one-page story for English class. He came back with a 10-page epic tale of survival with him riding home on the back of a polar bear through a blinding snowstorm.
Now that he’s supposed to be grown-up, his storytelling mission has lead him around the globe – from Nairobi, Kenya to Canada’s arctic (where he actually encountered real-life polar bears). Clearly he hasn’t changed all that much.
As a co-founder of Ice River Films, his DIY attitude has manifested itself in different roles from producer, writer, director, camera operator and editor. His work can be seen across the world through broadcasters like CBC, APTN, Smithsonian and Discovery.
A longtime musician and guitar player, Andrew is compelled to create and collaborate and has a knack for getting to the heart of a story.
Sam Karney, Director of Photography
Once described as a rural intellectual by a non-credible source, Sam Karney is a filmmaker who seeks to show the beauty in the mundane; the imperfection in the near-perfect.
Born in the prairies on the edge of the boreal forest, Sam grew up with the wilderness and the natural world all around him and through this immersion, he gravitates towards creating content that sees him travel to new places and explore the beauty around him.
With years spent in newsrooms, Sam brings a unique “real-world” feel to his work that combines the beauty of cinema with the gritty realness of current events and documentary. When not slinging a camera, he enjoys playing some blues guitar and drinking the finest pilsners in the land.
Sam’s travels have seen him shoot content for Smithsonian TV, APTN, Bloomberg TV, Al Jazeera, and numerous others.
He currently has a fascination with pre Second World War political history, and spends his time wishing he had a dog to walk. Also, he is in the market for a new hobby– suggestions are welcome
